Casita Guesthouse

Guest House

Pebble Beach, California

Sitting apart from the main residence, the guest house feels less like a secondary building than a private outpost overlooking the Pacific. Its reduced scale allowed the interiors to become more personal and elemental, retaining the precision of the larger villa while replacing its theatricality with a distinctly quieter rhythm.

The interior is composed almost entirely through gradations of brown, grey, black, and white. Oak moves from floor to cabinetry and exposed structure; dark furniture appears in crisp silhouette against white walls; leather, woven upholstery, and softly reflective rugs temper the harder architectural surfaces. There is little ornament and almost no reliance on color. Instead, depth comes from the way materials absorb, reflect, and change with the coastal light—a restrained backdrop to the extraordinary Monterey landscape beyond the windows.
