Renwick Apartment
Private Residence
SoHo, New York
Set in SoHo, New York City, this two-bedroom residence was conceived for a young professional whose life moves between New York and Hong Kong. The interior reflects that duality: cosmopolitan yet intimate, restrained yet richly tactile, bringing together the clarity of contemporary Manhattan living with a more layered approach to material, craft, and ornament.
The design is rooted in materiality and texture. A deliberately quiet architectural backdrop allows a nuanced palette of nubuck, exotic woods, silk, mohair, full-grain woven leather, marble, and intricately patterned jacquard textiles to define the character of each room. Rather than relying on overt decoration, richness is expressed through touch, surface, proportion, and the subtle dialogue between contrasting materials.
References to the client’s life between East and West emerge quietly through pattern and craftsmanship rather than through literal gestures. Chinoiserie-inspired motifs and finely woven surfaces sit alongside contemporary European furniture and modern architectural forms.
